Welcome! I’m Erica Kulas — Your Partner in Early Literacy Success📚

If you’re here, it means you care deeply about your child’s future, and that makes us kindred spirits.

I believe every parent has the power to build a strong literacy foundation for their child, starting from birth, and I’m here to show you how to do it naturally—without extra time, stress, or complicated lessons.

 A Little About Me📖

I’m a mom to two amazing kids, Henry (8) and Beatrice (5), and I’ve been married for 10 wonderful years to my husband, Mike. We live in Alexandria, VA, where our days are filled with school drop-offs, bedtime stories, and all the little moments that make childhood special.

My love for children started long before I had my own—I was the babysitter who stayed late to read one more book, the childcare worker who made learning fun, and the elementary school teacher who never stopped learning herself.

I spent 11 years in the classroom teaching kindergarten, first grade, and fourth grade English Language Arts before becoming a Reading Specialist and Literacy Coach. Now, I work as a curriculum reviewer for a literacy education publishing company, making sure high-quality instructional materials make it into classrooms.

But my biggest realization?

It didn’t come from my degrees or my professional work—it came from being a mom.

The "Aha" Moment That Changed Everything đź’ˇ

When I became a parent, I had a revelation—teaching early literacy didn’t have to be complicated. I wasn’t drilling Henry or Beatrice with flashcards or forcing formal lessons. Instead, I was effortlessly teaching them the building blocks of reading and writing during:

✅ bath time 🚿 – Learn letters and sounds with foam letters
✅ car rides 🚗 – Play sound games to build early reading skills
✅ errands 🛒 – Boost vocabulary by talking about everything around us
✅ bedtime 🌙 – Strengthen comprehension with read-alouds

It was simple. It was natural. And it was powerful.

But then, I saw the other side of the story.

In my classroom, I watched bright, capable children start school already behind. Parents cared deeply but felt lost. Schools weren’t guiding them on what their children needed before kindergarten. And teachers—stretched thin and overwhelmed—were trying desperately to fill the gaps.

🔥 That’s when it hit me: What if parents knew just how easy it could be?
What if they realized they already had everything they needed to lay a strong foundation for reading and writing—right in the moments they were already sharing with their child?

That’s when everything changed. And that’s why I’m here—to show you just how simple and powerful it can be. 📚✨

Why I Started Early Success 🌱

I realized parents need clear, actionable guidance on how to build early literacy skills—without extra work or overwhelm. That’s exactly what I provide.

My Mission:

✨ Empower you with knowledge about how children learn to read and write
✨ Show you simple ways to teach literacy skills in everyday moments
✨ Help you advocate for your child within the education system

🚨 The truth? Parents can’t assume the school system will handle everything.
Schools don’t always communicate the full picture, and teachers—many underprepared in literacy instruction—are stretched thin.

đź“– The earlier you understand what your child needs, the better you can support them from the start.

How Early Success is Different 🛠️

Unlike other literacy programs, I’m not giving you worksheets, apps, or time-consuming activities. I meet you where you already are.

My approach is about seamlessly integrating literacy-building moments into your daily routines. You already talk to your child, play with them, and buy them toys and books—let me show you how to make those things even more meaningful for literacy development.

With simple strategies, you'll build skills naturally—without extra work or stress. Every moment holds potential, and I’ll help you unlock it.

What I Want You to Take Away đź’¬

  • You are your child’s first and most important teacher. No one will ever advocate for them like you will.
  • You don’t need extra time to teach your child to read and write. You just need to learn how to use the moments you already have.
  • You deserve to understand what goes on in schools. Be informed, ask questions, and ensure your child gets the education they deserve.
  • Small moments create big impact. Simple, everyday interactions are powerful tools for lifelong learning.
